Master of Science in Business with a Concentration in Finance

The Master of Science in Business with concentration in finance program
is primarily designed for students who possess an undergraduate degree
in business, although some well-prepared students may possess an undergraduate degree in economics or a technical background in mathematics or engineering. By specializing in finance you will gain extensive training and skills in financial decision making in the areas of corporate financial management, investments and security analysis, international finance, funds management in financial institutions, and derivatives.

Curriculum

Prerequisite

All students must have completed a course in Calculus prior to attempting graduate business courses. This prerequisite can be met after admission to the program.

Foundation Courses

Students must complete the four foundation courses (0 to 12 credit hours) listed below. At the time of application, all undergraduate and graduate transcripts will be reviewed to determine if the following courses may be waived. Waivers of foundation courses only occur when a student has completed the required graduate course or undergraduate equivalent courses with at least a "B" grade.

****FIRE 693, the internship, is recommended for full time students. The department will work closely with full time students and prospective employers in order to achieve this goal. Also, a student may substitute a free elective for one of the FIRE electives, with the approval of the director of the M.S. program in Finance.

Business Electives                                                   9 credit hours

Students may choose any three courses approved by the director of the MS - Finance program. Any of the above Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate Electives may be selected. Two foundation courses are permitted, if they were not waived. Students are encouraged to select accounting, economics, math, information systems, and/or statistics courses.
